Eric plays the role of Gabriel “Joshua Denton” Vargas, who is a criminal lord living under the assumed identity of the late Joshua Denton. Gabriel, by day, lives as Joshua Denton, whose RFID chip is nabbed, and whose death he managed to get removed from the system database by bribing a Blackhand hacker.
He found early on that in a police state, bribery and chicanery go very far. Especially when the corporations aren’t liable for much, even if they get caught doing something distasteful — which makes the life of a successful criminal, very easy.
Gabriel’s right-hand man, Lenny, helps him lead the remaining horde of criminals who populate the Austin underground, and don’t mind exploiting the government people and selling them stolen drugs, cheaper than the corporations sell them. Gabriel refuses to sell drugs to “innocent” people (regular citizens, especially kids) and is disgusted by corporations like People Repurposing who force people into servitude.
Stealing and selling goods, and sometimes industrial secrets seem to be the most lucrative trade in his society. Information comes at the highest risk and price.
